Coco Kind

Coco Kind is the type of brand I love to review. With the mission “conscious beauty for all”, CK focuses on being an affordable, plant-powered, sustainable, and cruelty-free brand. The product I am reviewing today is their Chia Facial Oil ($16).

When reviewing, I try the product out for at least once a day, for seven days. The skin (especially if acne-prone) can often purge/break-out when new products are introduced. This was slightly the case for me with this product. I noticed some new texture on my cheeks, as well as a few small blemishes on my chin area. Nothing crazy, but I noted it. My skin cleared and went back to normal after a few days, and I have to say I like this product. Nothing special to write home about, but it moisturizes the skin and adds a pretty glow for the day when used in a morning routine. My only true gripe with this product is the smell. It smells very odd, almost like a soy sauce type of smell. The CK website describes the smell as “seedy & nutty”. If smell is a big deal for you, I do not recommend purchasing this. If not, then go right ahead. It is a moisturizing oil, mid-level priced, and sustainable. It is also available at Target, which I think it both a smart and cool move by Coco Kind. More indie/cult brands are being seen in stores such as Target, and I like that smaller brands are getting a shot to be loved by the larger consumer market.

Product Specifics…

Ingredients: certified organic salvia hispanica seed oil, chia seed oil. CK website on purpose of the key ingredient, chia seed oil :“antioxidant-packed chia seed oil is the richest botanical source of omega-3s, which help hydrate the skin and support its natural moisture barrier function”

To Use: You can use this along with or in place of a moisturizer after functional serums such as vitamin c, hyaluronic acid, etc..Tip: when something is described as helping with skin barrier function, it most likely should be used towards the end of your routine. Something like this oil or a cream/moisturizer should be put on top of other products, to seal them from the outside environment. When people talk about healing their skin moisture barrier, they are talking about the epidermis of the skin. A big part of this is making sure you are putting on a protect that will keep other products soaking in to the skin. I.E. a lotion after a serum, or sunscreen after an entire routine.

This is a good product, but there are many good products out there. This rating is mainly due to the smell of this product. Overall, not a bad purchase, but not every product can be top shelf. I plan to review some more best sellers from this brand, so stay tuned! I have a feeling there will be higher ratings in the future.
